Monday 20th Aug 2007 - look everyone I can get myself to standing position.
We must have the side rail always up now, Cai started sitting up by himself a couple of weeks ago, but now he can get to a standing position. Cai can also manage to walk while holding on with only one hand, what is unusual is that if you hold his right hand only then he holds out his left hand and makes the gesture (waving) for you to hold it, however if you hold his left hand then his right immediately goes flat to the side of his face as if to cover his right eye, we don't know why he does this, but we feel he notices some differences bewteen his left and right side, mabe there are some nerves missing somewhere other than his nose.
Cai can also manage to make a change over when pushing his trolley, i.e when he reaches a dead end, we guide him to a temporary place to hold onto such as a chair and then turn the trolley round and place it just within reach, he will then lean across and reach it and then start pushing it again. He will also walk along obects such as a table or the bed on his own.
For us these are huge steps and we are seeing him try and correct his balance although most of the time he looks as if he has been out for a few beers with me on a saturday night, this means we have hope that the balance system in his inner ear is functioning.
this week is Badenfahrt - the swiss really know how to party and only they could organise an event of such magnitude with minimal disruption. It is amazing the structures that have been made for such a short time.
