Monday 29th May 2006 - Cai admires the view from the train on the way down from Wengen, he prefers the wall on the other side to the valley with the waterfall.
We had quite an eventful week, On Monday Cai was very restless all night and although the nurse was there, we could just hear the pump and alarm all night. We were really needing and looking forward to a good nights sleep on Tuesday, when the nurse called to say she was ill and couldn't make it. It was a little more than my body could handle and although we both slept soundly on Wednesday night I picked up a cold and still feel groggy.
We had planned to have a trial weekend away with Cai, just to see whats possible, some parents in the same situation never leave the house, we however are determined to give him as normal a life as possible.
We made it okay to wengen and the weather was fine, we caught the train up to wengenalp and then walked back with Cai. It was a bit steep in places but we enjoyed it. Friday night didn't go so well though with Cai beeing awake from 2:30 until 3:30 causing the alarm to go off regularily and the suction pump running which all sounded really loud in the still of the night he had another episode an hour later and needed quite a lot of suction before after and in between. We felt we must have kept the whole building awake and thought it may be best to return home.
Next morning I bumped into the nice couple (base jumprers) staying in the room opposite ours and sheepishly asked them if we had kept them awake, they replied they hadn't heard a thing, we checked with Angela our hostess and she hadn't had any complaints or heard anything either so we decided to stay. The second night was much better, Cai (and us) slept from 10.30 pm until 8 am with the alarm only sounding a couple of times during the night. (all five of us stayed in the same room).
but WE DID IT! our first trip away with Cai, now we know we can do it we will plan some more. We will wait a while though because Kerstin is suffering from a bad knee after walking so much downhill with the pram.
