Monday 27th Nov 2006 - Cai tries to block any pre operation photographs.
It has been a busy time since the last post, Cai had his hearing test last week and it was discovered he can hear at high levels, but that his ear drums are not moving. It is thought that this was due to a fluid buildup behind the drum and the plan was to put grommets in his ear to allow the fluid to drain.
His operation was brought forward to 8 am because they had a few jobs to do on him, but we were advised that at least the whole team were there, canula, stomach and ear specialists so any issue could be fixed quickly.
Kerstin phoned me before to say that Cai has had his operation and is looking a bit sorry for himself, with blood coming out of his ears nose and Canula, they have given him some pain killers and he was sleeping at the time of the last call.
Kerstin had not yet spoken to the doctors, but had been informed that they had not put grommets in his ear but something else, I will write more when I get an update from Kerstin.
I could not update over the weekend due to my apple hardware problem, but I have to say that this is in part to my decision to accept a better offer at the cost of some more inconvienience. On the whole I am now satisfied with apple support.
POST OP UPDATE :-
Kerstin has still not spoken to the doctor yet, but she has been told that they have just put cuts in his ears to see if that helps and that they want to keep him in now all this week to try him on toddler milk and maybe some pureed food. He has rejected the milk changes so far which seem to give him stomach pain.
POST OP UPDATE2
Kerstin spoke with the doctors and the news amazed us and brought tears of joy to my eyes, Cai's vocal chords are moving slightly, so there is a possibility Kerstin's dream which foretold of him being canula free could come true. we have to wait a bit longer though probably a year at least but there is a chance and a hope that it can be removed. They have just put slits in his eardrums to see if that drains the fluid and helps his hearing. His canula was also changed for a larger diameter one and they want to change it again on friday to one which is longer in length. You have shared the bad news I hope you enjoy the good news now, shame about the rugby though wales seemed to be in slow motion compared to the all blacks, but at least Kerstin and I can say we were there in the ground.
